Markos – from surviving to a new life

Markos’ story is one of those stories that is not easily forgotten.

He was found between Charaki and Malonas on the island of Rhodes. His condition was heartbreaking: he was nothing but skin and bones, severely malnourished and completely exhausted. His life was already in danger, and he desperately needed help.

But Markos was not given up on. The animal rescuers took him into their care, provided everything he needed and gave him the time to recover. With a great deal of care, patience and love, he was slowly nursed back to health. Step by step, he regained his strength, learned to trust again and discovered what it feels like to live in safety.

The weak and emaciated dog gradually became a joyful Markos who was once again curious about the world around him. Then the moment everyone had been hoping for finally arrived: Markos was able to leave Rhodes and travel to his new family in Switzerland.

Today, he lives there in his forever home – loved, protected and cared for. His story shows us that even in seemingly hopeless situations, hope can still be found. It also reminds us how much can change when people choose not to look away, but decide to help.

Markos survived. And his fight for survival became the beginning of a happy new life.
